A Place To Fly!
Need to get away with your spouse or significant other for a couple days? Want to take a easy cross-country trip? Try N14 to CGE (Cambridge, MD). Airport staff are very pleasant and helpful, provided transport from airport to the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina, only one mile away. Google the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake and see the beautiful facility on the Choptank River. It is not busy in the off-season, and more reasonably priced. Golf course, spa, indoor pool, hot tub, fitness room, good restaurants at the hotel and in Cambridge, an historic small town a taxi away. Be busy or just relax. Most importantly, it is a very pretty flight on the eastern shore! Anne & Stacy Moore

Jason Flood Updates
A Pancake Breakfast and Auction was held Sept 10th for Jason at 3NJ9 Airport. Jason was injured earlier this year in a banner towing plane accident. Sharon and Rick who ran this event said the event went well. According to Marcus Staloff, about 80 to 100 people showed up through the morning, and about 20 aircraft flew in and out during the day. Check out the Video of this Event.

Like so many events, good or bad, they have come to pass this month.

We had planned a fly-out to Pisceo, NY, but Irene was on its’ way, cancelling our plans for a fun and exciting NY weekend. The excitement focused on Irene, the Hurricane, instead.

We purchased new ropes, secured our airplanes, replacing old worn tie downs as we checked the aircraft on the ramp. Rain had caused some ceiling leaks at the Flying W Airport. The pilots shop at flight operations, had fallen wet ceiling tile pieces on its’ carpeted floor.

Irene, the Hurricane, has, since settled down, creating its destruction and chaos along its’ way. Causing floods from its’ torrential rains, tearing trees from their roots, creating power outages from some of those fallen trees, and a few tornados have been reported. A few people have been killed and a few hearts have been broken. From the internet, a photo along one of the beach towns showed a large blue fish embedded into a building. A funny site, but adamantly sad. The business owner must now get their seaside building repaired.

On Thursday, Blues Eyes participated in the MDA’s Burlington Lock Up, and yes, she and her spouse Frank, end up behind bars. They had a warrant for Blues Eyes for having a Big Heart, and to serve time in Muscular Dystrophies appreciate jail site, located at the Robbins Nest Restaurant.

In the early part of the week, it was an Earthquake on Tuesday. Members of Blue Eyes’ local community came rushing out of their houses, asking, did you feel that? Blues Eyes, outside, cutting bushes, did not, but later heard and viewed many reports reporting on the earthquake centered in Mineral, Virginia. Several after aftershocks were reported in the Virginia area, within 24 hours.

On August 20, we had our Annual Lobster Fest. Blues Eyes and her spouse spend several days prior to the event, getting organized. Approximately 60 people were scheduled to attend our Lobster Fest, Another 10 or so showed up for the Lobster Fest without registering for our event. We always plan for more, since we always know that certain people will arrive without ever informing us. They just show up. We had lobster, hamburger and hotdogs, salads, beer and much more.

During our Lobster Fest, we celebrated Julius’s new job in Texas. Julius stayed another day, just to join us and say a final goodbye to all his flying club friends. A large Texas style cake was presented to Julius and shared with our group. Then a few group photos were taken for memories. We will miss Julius and his family, who have been part of our club for many years. Julius is now a life time member with us, and is always welcomed at Freeflight.

Julius is now in Texas. We’ll miss you.

Unfortunately, over this weekend, an accident occurred, killing one of our local pilots from the South Jersey Regional Airport. We send out our sincere sympathy to his family. He will be missed by his friends and the aviation community. We have heard many rumors, but from the rumors, we ask all pilots to get a good briefing and check for current Notams in their flight path.

On August 17, many Freeflight members attended the Atlantic City Airshow, Thunder Over the Boardwalk. Some drove, and several people took the train. Those that could, met up for Breakfast and for Dinner. Everyone had a great time, and here are links to some of the photographs taken by Ed.

On August 2, Jason Flood, a taleted young adult, was injured in an aircraft banner towing accident. Updates on Jason’s conditions and benefit events can be found on Caring Bridge – Connecting Family and Friends When Health Matters Most

Two very local benefit events are scheduled to benefit Jason.

On Sept 10th, a Breakfast and Chinese Auction will be held at Allen’s Airstrip 3NJ9, in Southampton, NJ, from 8 AM to Noon. If you have something to donate to the Auction, please contact Allen’s Airstrip on their link.

On October 1st, the Flying W Airport will hold a Beef and Beer benefit for Jason, $20.00 per person, starting at 7 PM in the large white tent. Tickets are available from Mindy at Flight Operations. Jason worked at the South Jersey Regional Airp0rt, VAY, and is part of this airport’s local community.

Out of the good and the bad, changes will come. The fun times, bring new memories, new friends, new experiences. The sad times, also brings new friends, new memories, and new experiences. May faith and hope get you though the difficult times. May peace, faith, hope, and charity prevail for all, and we all do our share to help each other.

BLUE EYES’ Needs Your Support!

But before we dream of Air Venture – Oshkosh, Blue Eyes’ needs your HELP! Frank from Freeflight Aviation will be putting Blue Eyes’ in the Burlington County Lockup unless Blue Eyes’ can raise $3,000.00 for Muscular Dystrophy before August 25th.

Pleaseeee help me raise this amount. All I need is a small amount from everyone, $5.00 or $10.00 will do. I don’t want to end up in the Burlington Lockup System. This will help a kid with Muscular Dystrophy go through their life a little easier. Click HERE to Donate Now.

OSHKOSH!

Aircraft are in for oil changes, getting washed, being given those final last minute touches, for a successful adventure to our land of Mecca. Freeflight’s aircraft maintenance crew are providing last minute detailing (wash & clean) services to two such aircraft. The pilots are planning to depart this weekend, NOTAMs in hand, with hopes of beating the crowd.

Several of our flight school members and local pilots are planning to attend. Some in their aircraft, or part of the plane’s crew, some commercially. To some, this is a return trip, to others, a new adventure into the world of aviation.

If you are planning on attending, we invite our members and friends to Meet Up this Thursday evening around 6 PM for Dinner. For more details, please visit our event link on our Freeflight Aviation Meetup Group.

If you are still thinking about attending, two Freeflight Members have gotten flights into Appleton, Wisconsin at great prices. Maybe there are still seats available on those flights.

A Busy August…

We are now in the heat of summer, just passing the midpoint of the year, HOT JULY, which will soon end as the Aircraft Mecca Treck ends. With one Hot Summer Month, August, left, before the coolness of September approaches, Freeflight has several events planned for the August calendar.

Early August, for many, will be a settling in period. Returning home from Mecca, thinking, if only “Ground Hog Day” as in the movies, would return, must now realize their return to reality.

Thunder!

Although, not as adventurous as Oshkosh, Freeflight does make an annual treck to the Atlantic City Airshow every year on a Wednesday. This year will be August 17th. Freeflight members and friends arrive on the AC beaches to watch “Thunder over the Boardwalk. Most of us travel in by train, meeting up at the Lindenwold station, to catch an early morning train to AC. Others drive or fly the aircraft into AC. If traveling by train, we meet up at the AC Convention Center. Our handy electronic devices allow us to connect, meeting for breakfast, the show and/or dinner during the day. For more information please visit our Event Listing and let us know you are attending, our Freeflight Meetup Group or the Explore US Meetup Group.

Seeing Orange!

They are red-orange, hot, fresh out of boiling water. We’re under the sycamore tree, at the gazebo, enjoying the crowd, enjoying a cool refreshing drink, finishing up some Hors d’oeuvres. We grab a plate. It’s the Annual Lobster Fest and Cookout. Hamburgers and Hotdogs on the grill. Clams in the shell, steaming, popping open from the grill’s heat. Salads to choose from, corn on the cob, fresh pasta, brownies, watermelon, yummmm!

Freeflight awakens from their dream. Our Lobster Fest is not until August 20th, starting at 4 PM! But, it’s coming, and soon! So buy your tickets NOW! Purchase your tickets online or directly from Freeflight. Send us an email or give us a call. Our invitation goes out to members of Freeflight Aviation, our local EAA Chapter, 1348, the Flying W and South Jersey Regional Airport pilot Community.

The Adirondacks

Our final event for August is near the end of the month, a Summer Fly-Out to Piseco, NY (K09) for the day or weekend. You the pilot decides how long you’d like to stay. One of our Freeflight members, Kirk, has invited our members and friends north for a weekend visit to his lakeside house and Pesco, his hometown Airport. On August 27th, Piseco Airport will have their annual August Fly-In breakfast. This will be an early morning Fly-Out to Piseco, NY, if you want to attend the airport’s breakfast, and an afternoon cookout at Kirk’s house on the lake. Bring your swim gear, and enjoy a relaxing swim in the lake. If you want, bring your camping gear and spend the night at the airport. Kirk will be happy to suggest a local hotel for the evening, if that is what you desire. We’ll have breakfast Sunday morning before heading back to New Jersey. A great way to end the month of August.

Father’s Day is a celebration honoring the fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in our society. A good father or father figure makes all the difference in a child’s life. A father is a pillar of strength, of support and discipline. He will share his life with his child, sharing his passions and life experiences.

Freeflight would like to take the time to appreciate the service of all our fathers and the men who act as father figures.

Many of our male pilots share their passion with young people. Whether it’s sharing a plane ride, telling a flight story or showing some child around a plane, they are sharing their time, influencing a young life, making a difference. Here is to all the male pilots who are fathers or acting as father figures.

To our flight instructors, our honorable teachers, who spend time providing guidance, developing, influencing young adult lives during their flight training. You must be patience, have a sense of understanding of each individual, and the ability to give that extra little bit, while teaching a student to fly.

             Marcus and Ben

At Freeflight, we watch as fathers share their passions, strengths, support, and bring a unity to their families. Stories are created, memories for sharing, and a new family legend for their next generation.

Sina and his son recently went flying together. His son, an Ohio college student, presently studying bio-engineering, enjoyed an afternoon over the skies of NJ.

Julius loves to fly, and is seen regularly, taking his family, wife Sharon and son Julian, on flying adventures. Julius is an avid photographer who has a volume of memories in his collection. Julius and his family have accompanied Freeflight on several fly-outs during the years. Julian’s first flight in the pilot seat was with flight instructor Brian Robbins, his father quietly sat in the back seat of the Diamond DA40, while his son’s was at the controls.

Brian, Julian, Julius Julius and Sharon

Brian Kilpatrick started teaching his son, Brian Junior to fly. His son now continues his flight lessons in our C152 with Steve Wemple. A twinkle in Brian Jr. eyes after his flight appears. His father must be proud as he learns his son continues forward with his flight lessons.

Steve, Brian Jr, Brian

Gavin Singh, a professional pilot, and flight instructor Rob Burns, watches, as Gavin’s son Tyler departs in the DA20. Gavin has shared the skies with Tyler as he has grown, taking him on Lear flights, observing Tyler piloting the skies on Microsoft Flight Simulator. To Tyler, flying almost comes naturally. Tyler soloed in 14 hours, only because he changed flight instructors. Tyler’s first instructor departed due to personal reasons. Tyler’s goal is to obtain his license on his 17th birthday. They also share their love of dogs, each with dogs on leases standing under the tall tree enjoying an afternoon at the airport.

Gavin and Tyler

John Lupnacca, owner of N8383T and a builder of a RV9, dreamed of the day his son would become a pilot. Several years ago, Jonathan earned his pilot license. We now watch as father with son venture off into the skies together. John and Jonathan recently shared a flight to Leesburg, VA to visit the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington Dulles International Airport. John flying one leg and Jonathan the return leg home.

John and Jon

Bob Parker and Tony Baltuskonis took part in our “Fly It Forward Day” earlier this spring. A day for women to experience flight. Each father shared a flight with their daughter. Bob give his daughter, Callyn; a flight in the Diamond DA40, Tony gave his daughter, Jessica, a flight in the Archer. Gary Growney provided a flight to his own niece, also Jessica. Gary, a voluteer fireman, is often heard talking on the phone with his daugthers who live out of state. Donald Peacock, one of our flight instructors is now sharing his passion of flight with his wife Wanda, by giving her flight lessons. Donald had wanted to give his wife a flight that day, but was unable to do so due to increased winds.

Tony and Jessica Gary and his niece, Jessica

Flight Instructors Bob McCabe and Dave Mull, two great men, have contributed much of their lives influencing young adults. Both gentlemen have been long time participates in the Civil Air Patrol’s young cadet program. Gary Growney and Paul Bolognone two other gentlemen, in recently years have become involved with the CAP’s young cadet program. This program also allows these men to serve this great country of ours. Please thank them for the time they give our country.

  Bob McCabe

We met Dave, our mechanic several years ago at Trenton Robbinsville Airport. We had recently brought our 1979 C172. Dave to the time to change a wheel bearing, installs an oil filter, and teaches us about the aircraft maintenance needed on our C172. Dave never requested anything in return. A grandfather, Dave and his wife Bernie are second parents to their grandchildren, as their own children work hard to support their family. Dave is often seen at Birthday parties, spending time with his mother, and at the Trenton Robbinsville Airport giving someone a helping hand.

                    Dave and Jack

And last, but not least, is Jan Greenberg, who many of you have recently met, as he spend some of his time at work in our office. Jan a very passionate pilot, regularly shares his love of flight. Jan donates his time, energy, and money, participating in the local EAA young eagle program. Often on our My FBO online schedule system there is a note by Jan, “young eagle flight” at the Flying W Airport, South Jersey Regional Airport or Cross Keys Airport. Jan a member of the EAA Chapter 1438, this EAA Chapter of volunteers pilots regularly provide flights for youths ages 8-18 in our local community.

Blue Eyes wishes she knew or remembered more family stories that could be shared with our members and friends. If she has forgot one or hasn’t heard one, please let Freeflight know. Freeflight would be happy to share theses moment with our followers.

On Saturday, May 21, Freeflight Aviation celebrated International Learn to Fly Day at the Flying W Airport. With clear blue skies and calm winds, many future pilots and flight enthusiasts participated in this successful event. Participants were able to get close to the aircraft on display from Freeflight Aviation, Aero Prep and Helicopter Flight Services. Those that had questions about flight were able to talk directly to aircraft owners, pilots and flight instructors. A number of youths between the ages of 8 to 17, were given Young Eagle flights by Jan Greenberg. Jan’s a long time member of the Freeflight Aviation Flight School, a member of the local EAA Chapter 1438, and a volunteer pilot for the Angel Flight Organization. Jan is looking forward to flying atleast 500 Young Eagles for the EAA.

Several attendees took advantage of the one-hour introductory flights available in the Cessna, Piper and Diamond aircraft. Two of our Flight Instructors, Rob Burns and Chris Colacci gave attendees introductory flights. Marcus Staloff, another instructor discussed his love of the taildragger. Marcus is an owner of a red tail wheel citrbria, an aircraft covered in cloth. Others attendees decided to visit the Flying W Airport’s Runway Café for a relaxing breakfast or lunch, and enjoyed the view of aircraft taxing by or departing the runway. While enjoying their meal, they may have seen on the members of the Northeast Raider’s Demo Team taxing by their window in one of the colorful Yaks.

As an extra incentive for those considering flight lessons, a drawing was held for a Discovery Flight, a great first step in getting a pilot license. The winner Fred Demshick, a local resident of the area, will go on a one-hour flight with a certified FAA flight instructor to get familiar with the airplane, the airport and experience the general awe of taking the controls of an aircraft for the first time, thousands of feet above the earth. This was a memorable day for Fred’s family and Freeflight. Not only did Fred win the Discovery Flight, but his three children were provided a Young Eagle flight in a low winged Piper Archer by Jan. Fred and his family made a video of their flight experiences this day and shared it with Freeflight members and their friends on Freeflight’s Facebook Fan page. Freeflight Aviation looks forward to welcoming Fred into its’ family of club members.

Aviation is a small group of people interconnected to each other, expecially in this area of NJ. The Flying W Airport manages another airport close by, the South Jersey Regional Airport. It is the home of the Air Victory Museum and the original Runway Cafe. The South Jersey Regional Airport, also know as VAY, is about 5-10 minutes from the Flying W Airport. Many pilots from both airports know each other, visit both restaurants, and often go out flying together. Aviation is a small world.
