Taking Flight This Summer

Jun24

Within all of us is a varying amount of space lint and star dust, the residue from our creation. Most are too busy to notice it, and it is stronger in some than others. It is strongest in those of us who fly and is responsible for an unconscious, subtle desire to slip into some wings and try for the elusive boundaries of our origin.

— K O Eckland, Footprints On Clouds

Honoring Fathers …..

Jun02

Articles from the internet…..

Growing up, it never occurred to me that my dad’s job was uncommon. I had friends whose moms and dads were teachers, police officers, retail managers, and everything in between, but nothing matched the reaction I received when I told someone my father was a pilot. Read more here.

Memories and Honor of FATHERS who serviced

My father, Gordon Bernstein, died 15 years ago at the age of 81 from complications of Parkinson’s Disease, first diagnosed when he was in his mid-40s and I was 18. He grew up in the Great Depression in Rochester, New York, graduated high school and learned to fly. After Pearl Harbor, he joined the Army Air Corps, becoming a 2nd Lieutenant and B-29 navigator.  Read more here.

As the United States geared up for Operation Overlord and the D-Day invasion of Normandy in the months leading up to June 1944, more than 2.8 million American troops gathered on British soil in anticipation of the Allied assault on Nazi Germany and occupied Europe. Read more here

Captain Eric Mosley settles into the left seat of the B777 with a new face to his right. They exchange the ordinary pleasantries and dive into the pre-departure routine. It’s all business until cruise, when they gain the opportunity to become acquainted. After all, they’ll see a lot of each other over this four-day. First Officer Casey’s interest is piqued when he eyes the impressive silver bracelet of wings on the captain’s right wrist. “Interesting bracelet, Cap’n,” Casey says matter-of-factly, hoping to engage the senior officer in easy conversation. ….. Spring Flying around NJ

“Spring won’t let me stay in this house any longer! I must get out and breathe the air deeply again.” —Gustav Mahler

https://jasonfloodairshows.com/

A Note from our instructor Paul King

I am doing a CFI stall / spin refresh session with Jason Flood.  I have also asked a few of my students if they would be interested in an abbreviated version that Jason does for student, private and commercial pilots.

We’ve put together a FLYER describing the training.  If you are interested, please contact Jason directly by email early in April 2019.

If you’ve never done this training before, I can assure you that it will change the way you think about flying.  And, as Jason put it, “It could save your life.”

Thank you,

Paul A. King

She ushers springtime in

Feb26

“March bustles in on windy feet
And sweeps my doorstep and my street.
She washes and cleans with pounding rains,
Scrubbing the earth of winter stains.
She shakes the grime from carpet green
Till naught but fresh new blades are seen.
Then, house in order, all neat as a pin,
She ushers gentle springtime in.”
–  Susan Reiner, Spring Cleaning

The Winds

The position of our jet stream and the angle of the sun have a lot effect on our winds.

During the winter season, the jet stream is way down south, but as spring arrives, the jet spring begins to move north.

The lifting jet stream and the increased sunny weather can cause increased atmospheric instability. The mixing of the cold and warmer air brings stronger winds. These fluctuations in the temperature can make one day feel like summer and the next day feel like winter.

Why the Spring season is so windy.

Created by the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Spring Stormy Weather

Thunderstorms are another major flying hazard in the spring. Dangerous thunderstorms can bring lightning, tornadoes, and flooding. When warm, moist air collides with cool, dry air, thunderstorms can occur. The three main ingredients: unstable air, an initial updraft, and high moisture content in the air can be the prefect mixture of a dangerous thunderstorm.
